If you do not take the Texas AAA Magazine, you have missed what is on it's cover:

Inside there are more pictures and the story.  This has been a long process with many emails and a few phone calls, but seeing this, it was worth it.

Our Heartfilled sympathy goes out to Erma and Guy Smith.  Erma's brother, who was 58, died suddenly will on a trip to Washington.  Keep Guy and Erma in your prayers.

From Larry Burruss:
2ND ANNUAL U. S. NATIONAL OPEN
CHILI CHAMPIONSHIP
Once again Cabela's at Buda, Texas was the host to one of CASI's newest events, this past weekend. We had 115 entries with 109 chili samples being judged. Again, congratulation to Pat Krenek who not only helped us secure the new medallions, for the cookoff, but also won the very first gold medallion representing the National Champion... (Other winners listed in EDs Reflections, August 16, 2011)
I wish to thank my able committee, Robert and Connie Schrade, Cindy and Roger Patteson and last but not least head judge Janie Burruss. Equally as important is the gratitude I have for each table monitor, beverage runner, tally person, chili and show judge, cook and spectator that braved the potential 100+ heat. We actually had one of the coolest days in months, only 97 degrees. One last thanks, I owe you bro.
The following is a list of contributors to the cookoff as well as sponsoring the awards;
Robert and Connie Schrade, Roger and Cindy Patteson, Canyon Lake Chili and Bar B Q, Fred Butler, Country R.V., Seguin, the Cielencki Family, Chili Con Carnies, Brent and Becky Allen, VFW Post 8315, Schertz, Tx, Dain Dreyer, Ken and Yolie Rodd, Comanche Crossing, Seguin L and M Steel, San Antonio Buda Chamber of Commerce and Cabela's. Many thanks.
I hope that everyone had a good time; we qualified 8 cooks for TICC over the two days. Cabela's has invited us to return in 2012 on the same second weekend so mark your calendars.
