From Kim Hiley:
The SAP CASI Cook-off is now complete and in the history books. From parking everyone on Friday, to the clean up on Sunday, our POD members really stepped up to make the cook-off a success. We can't run a cook-off without team work, and this weekend our team proved that. A BIG Thanks to everyone. There are a few extra Thank You notes that need to go out as well. Our "new home" of Traders' Village took VERY good care of us once again. We are so Blessed to have found them and found our way into their facility on the ground floor. And a BIG Thanks goes out to Jerry and Linda for their timing on Friday. They stopped by to promote their business and stayed to help the entire weekend. They went over and above the standard for us from start to finish. And they didn't slow down at the finish line either. On Sunday they brought out more entertainment. And last, but certainly not least, our new announcer, Diana McMillan, was also on hand all weekend and helped with more than just announcing. We appreciate her and all that she did for us.

A big Congrats goes out to the Chili Head of the Year: Ken Rodd. The award was well deserved.

I know that it is only Sunday Night, but I have several results to post.

From Tulsa, OK
Linda Carter Memorial CCO Recap

Today was the 2nd Annual Linda Carter Memorial CCO. The weather wasn’t really cooperative so we cooked inside. There were a few cooks that weren’t able to make it due to illness and death in the family. We hope you all feel better soon! We ended up having 17 chilis which was good considering the yucky weather. We really appreciated Dick Wagner, Bruce Smith, and Lee Bailey made the trip over from Little Rock, Arkansas. They weren’t the only ones who came in from out-of-state, Jon Tupper made the trip down from Joplin, Missouri. We even had a first time cook come out today and try his shot at competition chili, Mike Hastings from Tulsa. The temperature in the shop was just right and the smell of chili was heavy.

I’d like to take a second and mention someone special that was at the cook-off today. Kevin Kerr and his wife Carrie. Kevin is the son of Paula Thomas and step-son to T-bone Thomas. The Thomas’ are good family friends of ours and damn good BBQ cooks as well. Kevin had surgery a few months back to remove a tumor from his brain stem. There were some complications and he was given only a 10% chance of surviving through that first night. Well, after a lot of tough physical therapy and prayer Kevin is on the mend. It’s going to be a long road back, but he will make it. He has a great support system. Thanks to Kevin, Carrie, and T-bone for coming out.

We had a great response to the raffle. People really seemed to enjoy it. Thanks to everyone that donated items for the raffle. It was very much appreciated by everyone. I’ll do a post tomorrow naming all the donors individually. We really appreciated everyone coming out and making this an unbelievable event. I’d like to say a special thank you to my mother, Catherine Seabolt, who really helped out a ton with the raffle, food sales, and making this event a great success. I’d also like to thank my pod, Green Country Chili & BBQ Too! Pod, for all there support of this event. We could not do it with out you guys. We hope you all can make it out next year!!

Now for the facts!
Total money raised for charity: $1019.00!!! That’s almost $400.00 more than last year! Thank guys!

Pink Pepper Award: The Amigos – Dick Wagner, Bruce Smith, Lee Bailey, James Moseley, and Brian Powers. This award is given to the person/persons who represent what Linda thought every person should strive to be. Congrats guys!

The St. Paul Lutheran Memorial Chili and BBQ Cook Off was held on Saturday 3-19-2011 at The Tonkawa Falls Park and we had Beautiful weather for a change! We had a Great turn out!!!! 33 teams for BBQ! 26 CASI Cooks ! 26 Bean Cooks! And 11 juniors ! First, I want to whole heartily thank ALL of the cooks who came out. With out you, it would not have been possible to have had such a successful event! We are planning for next year already! Next I want to thank my head judge, John Caffey; my monitors: Mark Sanders,Gary Brignon, and Randy Duke; my Tally Team: John Caffey, Debbie Roberts, Jason Goains.  I also want to thank to Jason Goains, Kay Lefler, Randy and Angie Duke for their help with the Juniors, which they sponsored.  Thanks to the LSBS for all of their help! And of course, a thank you to Donna Conrad for running the BBQ side of the event! Please forgive me if I have left anyone out.  I assure you it is not intentional at all. Now on to the results. If anyone took any extra pictures of the juniors, would you please send them to me at Winksintexas@aol.com.  I have some pictures, but they are not quite what I want. Thank you.

HAPPY ST PATRICK'S DAY

From Elton Homesley:
Hello everybody!

I hope you all had a good time at the TICC domino tournament. I know that it has been a few months since that occurred, but I think I need to wrap things up for whoever will do it in the future. Most of you may know that there are going to be more of these events at other large cookoffs and I hope that TICC will keep going too. However I will not be running any of them. But I won't just drop out completely. I am trying to put together some of the things that proved to work pretty good so that other big time 42 tournament operators can have some starting groundwork to build on.

Most of you either played in the TICC 42 event or helped with the logistics. Some did both. Since then I have been queried for other tourneys at other cookoffs. So now I would like the benefit of your thoughts. I am not looking for pats on the back or grumblings because you didn't win. I want to know from each of you:

What you think could be improved?
What didn't work smoothly?
What would you like to see changed with the tournament organization?
With the selection of teams?
With the number of teams limitations?
With the advertisements ahead of time?.
With the assignment to the various first levels of play?
How about the prizes? Entry fee? Giving money to the CASI Scholarships? Playing environment?
Timing of games?
Any thoughts you might have with any aspect of the tournament.

Whatever you provide will hopefully help improve future tournaments, gamesmanship, and/or fun for all. And most of all it should help future promoters of 42 tourneys for the betterment of chili cooks everywhere who look forward to active evenings around a domino table.

Thanks for your help! Send your thought to me at toko@goshawkenv.com

From Kim Hiley:
I failed to report a correction and change to the SAP CASI Cook-off this weekend at Traders' Village in San Antonio. The Trails lists a Peoples' Choice Contest. Unfortunately we have to cancel this due to Health Department regulations. Not only can we not have the Peoples' Choice contest but we also cannot hand out samples. We hope to have this issue corrected next year so that everyone has a chance to sample and enjoy our wonderful CASI chili. Sorry for any problems this may have caused.

NOTE:  It is time to begin thinking about TICC and the Poster Contest.  Here is the information.

Poster Contest Guidelines

-  When designing the piece of art, please keep in mind that the poster is a vital element to the success of the event. The artwork that is chosen will not only become the official poster of the Terlingua International Chili Championship, but it will also possibly add to the development of the retail merchandise.

- The artist should design an initial draft of poster artwork. If selected, the artist will work with CASI staff in making changes and developing the final piece.

- Artwork must incorporate the following elements:

      *  Name of Event: Terlingua International Chili Championship
     *   Annual Designation: 45th Annual
     *   Date of Event: November 5, 2011

- Artist should keep in mind that the finished poster must also include the Sponsor Logos and pictures of the previous year’s winners.

- Artist should design artwork with the use of bold colors.

- Actual size of the finished poster must be 18" X 24" and artwork must be camera ready.

- If selected, artist agrees to relinquish ownership of artwork.

- If selected, artwork becomes the sole property of the Chili Appreciation Society International, Inc.

- If selected, artist agrees to sign and number fifty (50) prints within 30 days of request.

Poster submissions must be mailed to the Executive Director by no later than June 1, 2011.  Her address is 3014 Oak Mountain Trail, San Angelo, TX 76904.  Her email address is garjans@suddenlink.net.

Minutes from the Winter Board Meeting have been sent to the Great Pepper's.  I will post them to the web page in the History Section as soon as we can resolve the problems with the new update.
