From Tricia Byrom:
Kerrville Easterfest was a great success again this year! Beautiful weather and lots of people. I don’t think we had a single chili cook on the judging table (chili that is!). With just the cook-off proceeds, we were able to raise over $2000 for the American Legion 208 charities. We had 42 CASI, 30 Beans, 22 Salsas, 18 Amateur Chili, and 40 BBQ Teams. I understand the event itself raised over $10,000. Special thanks to all of the chili cooks that helped us in the judging tent. That is what is so great about chili cooks….everyone is there to help ! And of course special thanks to Reva Weatherly and her LSBS crew…they are the BBQ Pros!!! Traci and I really appreciate it and will return the favor down the chili trail. Here are the results :

From Ron Barnes:
We have a new twist at this year’s Top of Texas Kickoff Cookoff in Irving on May 21st. We will have the “Chili Champions Challenge” and here is how it works:

To be eligible to participate in the Champions Challenge, you must have done one of the following (we will use the honor system for verification):

     *  Placed in the Top 10 in Chili at TICC (any year)

     *  Won a TICC Automatic Qualifier (1st Place Chili Only)

     *  Be a past TOT Cookoff Winner

To enter, each eligible participant will donate two (2) food items for the Irving Cares food shelter (packaged non-perishable items). They will also “ante” $10 into the pool. The cash will be paid back 100% to the top three finishers that participate (50%, 30% and 20% for 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectfully). The winners will be selected from the cookoff winners.

For example, Cook A wins the TOT Cookoff. They did not participate, so we go to the 2nd place finisher. If that cook participated, they get the winners share. We continue down the winners list until we have identified the top three “Challenge Participants”.

To register, see Doris Coats at the registration table at the cookoff. We look forward to seeing everyone there!

From Tammie Wooster:
Hey all you Chili Cookin Fools,

Don't forget to get your pre-registration entry forms in the mail. Deadline is quickly approaching, entries must be postmarked by May 7th in order to go into the drawing for a 6ft folding table!

The Southwest Open Committee wants to invite everyone out to our NEW location at the Choctaw Casino RV Park! We promise 70 degree weather with only a mild breeze and NO rain! Yes, thats our story and we're stickin to it!!!

I am also going to start taking names for the 42 Tournament on Friday night. It will be a blind draw but would like to have an idea how many teams we are expecting, so just shoot me an email if you plan on participating! Winning team receives an awesome set of designer dominoes!

Here's hoping that you all had a GREAT weekend!  Spring is really here and the next couple of months, there will be lots of chili cooking activity!

From Larry Burruss:
Congratulations again to Carolyn Seelig and all the other cooks that were recognized at Texas Ladies State Chili Championship. It was good to see a few new faces amongst all of the seasoned lady cooks.

I want to thank all of the men that helped me in the judging area including Steve Ashman, Kyle Bond, Hugh Brown, Tim Collier, Alan Dean, Steve Edmondson, Frank Fox, Dave Gage, Ralph Hay, Lynn Hejtmancik , Elton Homesley, Don Hoy, Warren and Scott McDonald, Roger Patteson and Crew, Willie Raven, Robert Schrade, Bruce Stewart, Harvey West and John Goforth for also monitoring the final table. If I have failed to mention someone please forgive me but know that your assistance was truly appreciated.

There were a few ladies that were not pleased that we had two participants on the judging tables and I take full blame for that happening. We had avoided that situation until the very end and I got busy and saw what happened to late to make a change. I did point out that this is not a violation of CASI rules but we did not intend for it to happen as we managed to have only non-participant judges most of the day, even with limited spectators. GREAT COOKOFF LADIES.

From Ken Rodd:
Below is information on the Florida State Chili Championship being held October 8th.  Mark your calendars now!! It is being held in a super location in a waterfront RV Resort. You will have a great time. Come early and enjoy lots of things to see and do.

TABLE AND CHAIRS FOR KRAZY FLATS

At the Winter Board of Director's Meeting, it was decided to purchase 20 tables and 100 chairs for Krazy Flats to be used for the BBQ Contest and other activities. At the present time, if we need table and chairs at Krazy Flats, they must be carried to Krazy Flats from the Judging Pavilion and then returned for any activity requiring their use. This is causing extra wear and tear on them as well as the people who must get them from one place to the other. We do have the facility to store these at Krazy Flats.

If you or your pod would like to sponsor the purchase of either the tables or the chairs, we would welcome this. To purchase a table the price is $100.00. To purchase a set of 4 chairs, the price is $50.00. If you or your group would like to sponsor one or more of these items, please contact either David Sexton or myself. The checks should be made out to CASI and sent to either myself or David. David's address is

POSTER CONTEST
We are looking for the art work for the 45 TICC.  Here are the guidelines for this contest.

Poster Contest Guidelines

Ø When designing the piece of art, please keep in mind that the poster is a vital element to the success of the event. The artwork that is chosen will not only become the official poster of the Terlingua International Chili Championship, but it will also possibly add to the development of the retail merchandise.

Ø The artist should design an initial draft of poster artwork. If selected, the artist will work with CASI staff in making changes and developing the final piece.

Ø Artwork must incorporate the following elements:
          * Name of Event: Terlingua International Chili Championship
          * Annual Designation: 45th Annual
          * Date of Event: November 5, 2011

Ø Artist should keep in mind that the finished poster must also include the Sponsor Logos and pictures of the previous year’s winners.

Ø Artist should design artwork with the use of bold colors.

Ø Actual size of the finished poster must be 18" X 24" and artwork must be camera ready.

Ø If selected, artist agrees to relinquish ownership of artwork.

Ø If selected, artwork becomes the sole property of the Chili Appreciation Society International, Inc.

Ø If selected, artist agrees to sign and number fifty (50) prints within 30 days of request.

Poster submissions must be mailed to the Executive Director by no later than June 1, 2011. Her contact information is:  Janice Miller, 3014 Oak Mountain Trail, San Angelo, TX  76904.  The email is garjans@suddenlink.net.

The Orchard at Charlie Clark's

The Orchard is located on 2 ½ acres of one of the most captivating properties in Pinetop, Arizona. The Orchard is part of an historic original homestead. We have reopened the old barns and converted one of them into a rustic outdoor bar and patio with private sitting areas. Where the old home used to reside is now the location of a large outdoor dance floor and horseshoe pits, all surrounded by large heavy shade trees and a quaint apple orchard.

April 30th, Myrtle Beach Inaugural CASI Chili Cook-Off

We’re just ome weekend away from our event on April 30th. For those that will be arriving in RV’s, I have made arrangements with Myrtle Beach KOA at $49.50 per night. KOA is only eight blocks from the festival.

CASI Turn in time has been moved to 12:00 Noon and public chili tasting will not begin until after that time. Cooks can set up as early as 8 AM.

The cooks will be able to drive right to the cook site for loading and unloading and will be able to park nearby. All efforts will be made to make it easy for you.

We expect to have at least 4,000 in attendance so please bring extra chili. We will sell wrist bands to taste the chili in 2 oz. cups. Depending on the number of chili cooks we have, I don’t think 5 gallons per cook would be unreasonable for the first event. Anything ya’ll can do will be appreciated.

I am hopeful that the word will be circulated and we will have a successful first CASI Chili Cookoff in Myrtle Beach.
