From Cynthia Gill:
We hope that everyone is planning to attend Chili and Charros in San Miguel de Allende this January 28th. It is an amazing event. This year, we have online signup available at http://www.chiliandcharros.com/ Our website has all kinds of information on the different competitions, our wonderful prizes and travel info too. Be sure and watch the video of last year's event. Also, click "Like" on our Chili and Charros Facebook page to get updates on great places to stay, restaurants and more. Remember, we are an international CASI event, so first 3 places in Chili qualify and 1st in Show.

To make travel arrangement simpler, we have a SMA travel agent who can help you with all the details. Her name is Judy Newell and her US phone number is 949-300-3686. If you want accommodations with a kitchen, Judy can help with that as well. San Miguel has lovely historic homes for vacation rental and a variety of hotels to choose from in any price range. Continental/United from Houston and American Airlines from Dallas operate a number of non-stop flights each day into nearby Leon, Mexico (BJX). One of the many ground transportation services will get you from the Leon airport to San Miguel. Most of these can be booked online if making your own arrangements.

For any cook-off info or travel advice, you can call me at 281-480-1912. (you can also browse our travel blog at http://sanmiguelinformation.blogspot.com/) Our cook-off entry fee includes 10 lbs of meat. We supply tents, tables and big pots for those who want to enter People's Choice chili or the Charro Bean Contest. Our propane bottles are the big ones, so please bring an adaptor. (I hear they are inexpensive and are available at Academy.) Don't forget your passport!

Hope to see you this January in beautiful and historic San Miguel!

From Larry Walton:

As I looked back my wife and I almost did not make the trip to Terlingua with the economy in bad shape and not knowing if you will have a job are not. So glad we made it. You know for me it’s not the Chili I just love to cook but it’s the people that make the family of CASI. Chili Heads that welcomes and takes the newbies in and teaches them how to cook chili and share stories and laughs around the camp fire that’s what I love. I have to say thank you to so many people for helping me along the way but it was Randy Duke that took me to my first cook-off and I got 10th place and was hooked. As I said on the stage I graduated from David Lefler University with a degree in Dukester Chili. Thanks for your help guys. Other who graduated are Gerald Casey, Jim (stink foot)Trietsch and their wife’s are the best friends you could have. I am looking forward to representing CASI and Central Texas Pod at all the cook-offs I can make. Thanks again.
Hope to see all of you on the Chili Trails

Check out this web site because there is a posting about Terlingua.  It was posted last week.

From Robert "EL WAPPO" Schrade:

Hello to everyone and congratulations to everyone who placed and participated in TICC 2011. Unfortunately I was not able to be there, but my thought were with all of you. Boy, I was going up the walls because I was unable to be there.  The Docs wouldn't let me. I am on the way to healing and getting back at it.  Even though I was not there, I was still in touch with folks and was able to help via e-mail and phone. I was very sadden to hear that we lost a great Chilihead in Ken Swart. When I put out a call for help on the electrical work at the ranch, Ken was the first one to stand up and say "Wappo, I will be glad to help you and CASI out."  That was just the kind of person he was.  He was always willing to lend a hand.  He had helped me in the past at the ranch. Ken, you will be missed, but never forgotten. I want to thank Jim Ezell, John Goforth, Don Hoy, Don and Susie Weber for stepping up and helping me fulfil my duties at TICC 2011.  Great job! Receiving reports and all the pictures was really nice and it was almost like being there.  But you all know, there is nothing like being at TICC.  Another great job and a big thanks to all of the volunteers that make TICC the event what it is, and it would be impossible without you.  Believe me when I say that the Board of Directors have already started on TICC 2012 as it is a 365 day a year job, but a great job to have. Well, I hope to see you all soon and I will be working hard to make CASI a great organization. I am now Ranch Manger, so if you have any ideas for improvements at the ranch, please feel free to give me a holler, an e-mail or a call with your idea.  Remember, no idea is a bad one.  I plan on spending a lot of time at the ranch this coming year.

Thanks for all you do.
