From Lee Kroencke:
Just a quick reminder that this coming weekend, July 31st, and Aug 1st, are two dates to keep in mind for chili in the Kansas City area.

Outlaw Cigar South Chili Cook-off. http://www.outlawcigar.com/  Held at 13700 Metcalf, Overland Park KS. CASI Chili entry fee $20.00 with a noon turn-in. Home Style chili $15.00 with a 1 pm turn-in. Cook both competitions for $30.00. CHILI GRIND ONLY. We have been getting lots of inquiries about this cook-off, seems everyone has heard the word about the great events at Outlaw Cigar. In addition to a fantastic chili cook-off there is food, drinks and cigar specials featuring XIKAR and Jesus Fuego from 10am until 6pm. Also, this is a very special event due to the untimely death of Shawnee Kansas Firefighter John Glaser, the proceeds from the cook-off will now benefit the JOHN GLASER FOUNDATION.

John lost his life in the line of duty in a house fire on May 22, 2010. Firefighter Glaser left behind a wife and 2 children. John was a loving father and devoted husband.  His wife, Amber, who was his childhood sweetheart, released the following statement:
"John died doing something he loved. Knowing that, as well as the outpouring of support from the community, has been a tremendous help to us as we deal with his passing."

Glaser, 33, had decided to become a firefighter after 9/11. At his funeral service, fire chief Jeff Hudson said Glaser gave his life serving his community.

"John gave his life without hesitation while searching a home in very dangerous conditions because he thought someone was trapped in that burning home and he might be able to save them," he said.

Firefighters will also be on hand at the Chili Cook-off to sell shirts and raise additional monies for the foundation.

If you would like to donate but are unable to attend the cook-off, please contact Lee Kroencke at 913-754-6074, gladiatorchili@yahoo.com or Larry Velasquez 913-708-2118, larry.velasquez@forbo.com. COOKS - PLEASE MAKE EXTRA THROW DOWN CHILI TO HELP RAISE MONEY FOR THE JOHN GLAZER FOUNDATION.

On Sunday, August 1st, at 9:00AM the Gladiator Chili Pod will have their annual meeting at the VFW Post #846 located at 8804 Grant Street, Overland Park, Kansas, 66212. Cooked to order breakfast is available from the Post for $6 per person, all you can eat. This meeting includes POD elections and 2010 business.

NOTE:  I have received 20 Annual Reports so far.  Thank you to all of you who have already sent in this report.  Remember that it is due to me no later than August 15.  I would also remind you that if you have something to include on the agenda for the Great Peppers Meeting and/or have a handout that you would like to have included in the packets for each Great Pepper, I need that by August 25.  I had put in the blog last week that I needed it by COB.  I had somebody who wasn't sure what that is, so I am sorry if I used abbreviations that are unfamiliar.  COB is Close of Business.

Also remember that I may not be able to blog on Friday or it will be later than usual.  We will leave here early on Thursday Morning to fly to Cliff's Mothers.  We will be there until August 9, if nothing changes our plans.  I will blog each day, but I can not tell you what time it will happen.

If you have not registered for the Great Pepper's Meeting, please take the time and do it now.  The paper work for this can be found on our web page (http://www.chili.org/).  It is in the Resource Center.

The Resource Center is where you can find our CASI Documents.  Little by little I am trying to get them all placed in the Resource Center so that everyone can easily find any of this information.  If you think that there should be something placed in there that is not there currently, please let me know.  This has been one of my projects for the last 2 years.

I am also still trying to get the History for each Pod.  It will be placed in the History Section located in CIS.  I have not received very many of those.  Help us perserve the History of your Pod which is the History of CASI.
