From Kim Bordano, Director of Marketing, Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie:
May 25, 2011
Dear CASI Member,

We would like to invite you to the 2nd Annual CASI Chili Cook-off Competition at Lone Star Park on Memorial Day Monday, May 30.

In addition to the Chili Cook-off Competition, we have a huge day planned with our special Lone Star Million racing program featuring 6 stakes races, attracting some the top race horses in region. Enjoy live music by Incognito beginning at 11 a.m. and our Family Fun Park activities including Bounce Houses, Pony Rides and a Petting Zoo from noon to 4 p.m.

Plus, one lucky fan will drive off on a Harley-Davidson® Sportster. Make sure to pick up your entry form when you check-in, so you can enter to win!

Load-in and registration will take place between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. near the West Entrance of the Grandstand. Chili Turn-in will be at 2 p.m. When you arrive, take Lone Star Parkway to Parking Gate 5 to enter the grounds and follow the signs to the cook-off site.

Tents are provided and set-up will be available on a first-come, first served basis. Due to our license, alcohol is not permitted to be brought on property however 16 oz. can beer will be sold for a discounted price of $2.50 at approximately 10:30 a.m. to any cook-off participants of age. (Regular price on-site after the venue opens is $5.75)

You can contact me with any questions or concerns at (972) 237-1134.

We look forward to seeing you at the 2011 Lone Star Million Chili Cook-off!

From Happy Hinman:

For the CCO at the Schertz VFW on June 11, they have stated that Campers are welcomed, but please do not park in the parking lot. However, they would appreciate it if the campers would park in the outer perimeters around the actual parking lot.  The hall may be rented for that evening and they would need the space in the parking lot for their guests. But even if the parking lot is full, there is plenty of space on the outer perimeters for the campers. They were very nice about it and welcomed anyone who wants to park there. Please let me or Carol Cornelison know if you plan to bring your camper so that we can give them an estimate of how many campers will be there.

Gumbo cooks can sell their gumbo. The event sells tickets and reimburses the cooks 70 percent. I'm still looking into the cooks selling throw down chili. I'll let you know.

From Barbara Herrin:
Just a reminder that Tom Green County is under a Burn Ban, but I have checked and we can use our propane stoves, just no open fires.  Hope to see you at Water Valley Park for a weekend of fun, food and of course CCO.

May you have a great Memorial Day Weekend.  Please be careful and safe.  Please take a minute to remember our fallen heros who died to guarentee our freedom!

From Bert "Bubba" Reinke:
For anyone that has enjoyed going to Possum Kingdom State Park and Lake Mineral Wells State Park. Even though they had severe wild fires both state parks are re-opening this weekend. All the campgrounds and trading posts/dock facilities were spared from the bad wild fires. A large majority of the park grounds themselves were completely burned but the recreational facilities except for some restrooms were spared and are back to normal. For all those that enjoy our Texas State Park system please help by making reservations and visiting these parks to help them get their feet back on the ground and stay in business.

From Myrl Coultas:
Nancy and I went to Rocky Point to JJ's cookoff and had a great time.  There were no problems at the border or on the way down.  The merchants are really hurting because Americans are afraid to go into Mexico.  I think it is completely safe in Rocky Point (Puerto Penasco Sanora)  We even had some of the natives place in the cookoff.  So don't be afraid to go to the International Open in January.

TABLE AND CHAIRS FOR KRAZY FLATS
At the Winter Board of Director's Meeting, it was decided to purchase 20 tables and 100 chairs for Krazy Flats to be used for the BBQ Contest and other activities. At the present time, if we need table and chairs at Krazy Flats, they must be carried to Krazy Flats from the Judging Pavilion and then returned for any activity requiring their use. This is causing extra wear and tear on them as well as the people who must get them from one place to the other. We do have the facility to store these tables and chairs at Krazy Flats.

If you or your pod would like to sponsor the purchase of either the tables or the chairs, we would welcome this. To purchase a table the price is $100.00. To purchase a set of 4 chairs, the price is $50.00. If you or your group would like to sponsor one or more of these items, please contact either David Sexton or myself. The checks should be made out to CASI and sent to either myself or David. David's address is
