2nd post for Thursday

Harold Ray King, age 76 of Sequin, passed away March 28, 2012. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Tres Hewell Morturary from 3 - 7 p.m. Funeral services will bs held Monday, April 2, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. At the Tre Hewell Mortuary with Rev Bill Knobles officiating. Entombment will follow in Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.

Ray was born on September 2, 1935 in Bogata, TX to John and Edna Venable King. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from Harden Simmons Universary. He was a manufacturers' representative for concrete roofing tile products. Ray formerly served on the City Council of Hollywood Park, TX and was the current secretary of the McQween's Lions Club.

Ray was fondly remembered for confounding Chili Appreciation Society International (CASI).

He is preceded in death by his late wife Judie King, his parents, and brother William King. Survivors include his loving wife, Patricia Irvine-King, daughters, Melissa Ashby and husband Bruce, and Lezlie King and husband Mark Burns; sons, Rom Ortiz and wife Toni Thompson Ortiz and Steve Bayne; grandaughters, Johanna Ashby Kell and husbandRyan, Jessica Ashby Jones and husband Will, Jordan Ortiz and Olivia Ortiz, grandson, Austen Ortez, and three great grandchildren.

memorials can be made to the CASI Scholarship Fund.

From Bill Pierson:
CASI lost one of it's Pioneers and Legends when Ray King passed Way last evening. Ray's Heath had been in decline the past couple of years, but it still is a shock to lose someone who had so much to do with CASI.

Ray Along with Doris Kitmman Coats and Richard Knight (they were known as the KKK, a tag that didn't last for long for obvious reasons) developed the basic chili rules we still follow.

In the late 70's, Ray founded C.A.S.I., Inc. Ray was the first Tally Masterr, although he did not hold that title. He kept track of the cook's points until Richard Knight assumed those duties and title. in the early 80's, Ray was instrumental in the formation of CASI-Chili Appreciation Society Interenational which is the organization that governs our Cookoffs. Ray was the first President.
It's Thursday and we are in Johnson City and we're getting ready for Texas' Men's State.  The weatherman has promised rain.  We from West Texas do not know what that is.

I am sad to report the death of Ray King. No other information is available at the time.

From Ed Nesbitt:
If you are coming to Sugarland Saturday please be aware that the both Microsoft maps and Mapquest directions are incorrect. The park is South of US-59 on University Street. If you are headed Southwest on US-59 toward Rosenberg you will take the University Exit (just past Highway 6) and take a LEFT, under the freeway. Continue on for just over a quarter of a mile and you will see this beautiful park on the right just before the street ends and forces you to make a hard left.

We are also getting conflicting reports on whether or not we will have the Sugarland health department regulations to deal with or not. I was assured that it is not a problem (maybe because it is a charity event) then tonight I just got a message from a BBQ team that they had to deal with the same regulations a few weeks ago as we have when we cooked there in years past. Because we just don’t know I am suggesting that we all bring a fire extinguisher, a meat thermometer, and three tubs or bins for water, soapy water and chlorine bleach water (ask your local Boy Scout and he will explain it all) and food safe plastic gloves to handle the raw meat. I hope I am just crying wolf but with our prior experience and this new information from a recent event, better safe them sorry.

The event includes a 5K race and the promoter has asked that all cooks be in the park by 9 AM if possible. If not you may have a hard time because of road closers forced by the runners route.

Finally; please remember it is a 1 PM turn in.

Hope to see you there.

It's FRIDAY!  Here's hoping that everybody has a GREAT weekend!  I want to wish a special Birthday wish with 2 people who share this weekend with me!  First on Saturday to Pat Pilcheck.  Hope you have a great day!

And my friend who celebrates with me on Sunday.

Happy Birthday Jenny!!!!

ATTENTION ALL CASI MEMBERS!

YOU Can help steer CASI for its future!!!  Think about running for a position on CASI's Board of Directors.  We have to have directors to make plans for our events!  CASI is just not just TICC!  It is an everyday event.  Plans for activities take months and people.  Without Board of Directors this will not happen.

If you do not want to run for one of these positions, but know somebody that would make a great Director, start encouraging this person to run for one of the positions.  Election will be at the Great Pepper's Meeting the second Saturday of September (September 8) which will be held in Dallas, TX this year.

There are 4 Board of Director's Positions which are up for election, as well as the Executive Director Position.

If you are interested, but have questions, I will try to help answer those questions or I will send them to a Director who can answer them.  Although these jobs take some effort and work, they are also rewarding.  You meet the nicest CASI members and cookers!!  It allows you  to introduce new ideas and implement them.  We need YOU!!!

A THANK YOU from Refro Foods:
Thank you to each of you (there's a large number here, but we're not sharing email addresses for privacy issues!) for voting for Renfro Foods for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Small Business of the Year Award.

As I mentioned, there are two competitions going on --- the Community Excellence Award is a popular vote, and you have helped Renfro Foods receive a ton of votes. We will find out how Renfro Foods performed in this vote during the breakfast on May 22 at the annual conference in Washington, D.C.

Now here is the REALLY BIG NEWS: The U.S. Chamber has selected Renfro foods as one of just SEVEN NATIONAL FINALISTS for the Small Business of the Year Award. This competition is based solely upon merit and is separate from the popular vote.
The Renfro family will learn who the actual winner is during a luncheon on that same day, May 22.

Thank you for helping bring such honor to a great family-owned company right here in Fort Worth. We hope to be sharing some incredible news with you in about ten weeks.

Have a great and safe weekend!

Chili

Episode: CCUTA-113H

There's no meal as filling as a bowl of Texas red-chili, that is. Jeffrey Saad hits the trail in search of the best of this cowboy classic, learning at the feet of a two-time chili champion how to keep it real and do it right. Not that red is the only color-in Santa Fe he'll find classic green chili, in Los Angeles a white chicken chili...and even a yellow version, spiked with mangos and bananas. Finally, we'll hit a Himalayan restaurant to try a border-bending meaty chili that proves the old adage: Once you go yak, you never go back!
