From Jon Tupper:

We had scheduled a CASI sanctioned cook off for June 11th during our Boomtown Days Festival.

As I am sure you (CASI members) are aware, the City of Joplin has devastated on May 22nd by an EF5 tornado.

Over 30% of our City was destroyed. Many local business sustained major damage. Over 8000 structures were damaged or destroyed.  We lost four school building including our high school and one of our major medical providers, St John Hospital.

Since Boomtown Days is a City festival, many of the people who volunteer and make the event happen were directly affected by the storm and the relief effort.  Most if not all of our City staff was working night and day with relief efforts. For that reason, we cancelled our event.

After seven weeks, the executive committee has decided that we need to have the festival. It has been rescheduled for Aug 25-27.  We are really looking forward to having a fun and exciting time and a chance to be the damage and destruction away just for a few days.  We will hold a sanctioned CASI cook-off on Saturday, August 27. The event will be the same as planned in June except that all money raised will go to local relief efforts for the City of Joplin.

I believe that we will have a great event and that we can get the word out to many local cooks as well as those in surrounding states.

I appreciate everything CASI does and look forward to this event and having many others.

Thanks for everything!

NOTE: Rick Thomas lost his mother this weekend.  They are on their journey back to Texas.  His mother lived in Del Rio.  Please keep Rick and Karen in your prayers for a safe journey back to TX.

From Dave Hewlett:
To all those that care: It seems the CASI BOD's brings up issues that effect the CASI org as a whole and then votes on items that seem to me to be CASI business that the members and the GP's should be involved in deciding. The News letter recognition issue is one of those items. It would be easy to send a message to the GP's about issues and they can send it on to the members to see if there is a desire to be part of the discussion and decision. Yes I know many of the GP's do have email but do not use it or do not send on info to the members and yes I know many members do not read their own emails about CASI. But it is an attempt to get the communications going. Please note I do not see any messages from each BOD's to the GP's about anything. That is just wrong. I bet only 9% of the members read the blog so I see it as not the method of communications. So with this said I agree with Larry that the news letter issue is a Great Peppers Meeting discussion and not just a BOD decision. Let's work together to make communication work. And let's make it clear that the running oif CASI is the ED and the GP's and the job of the BOD's is to do their assigned job's and run TICC. Many issues here. Tks.
