From Jim Ezell:
It is with great pride that I announce my candidacy for the Board of Directors of the Chili Appreciation Society International. Having served before, I believe I can bring experience and serve in whatever capacity I can best help the organization. We have had an unprecedented turnover in the ranks of the BOD the last few years. We must move to stabilize, vitalize, and energize a new generation to take CASI to the next level. I take the job seriously and will devote whatever time it takes to elevate CASI to be the best that it can be. Hopefully we can match our human resources, as well as financial well being to maximize chili, charity and fun. As the politicians are fond of saying "Our best is yet to come." My application is on file and I would be happy to discuss any questions as to my qualifications.

I would appreciate your support.
From Johnye Harriman:

CASI Cooks and Supporters:
As many of you know, the June 11 Boomtown Days cookoff in Joplin, Missouri, had to be cancelled due to the devastating tornado. The City has decided to reschedule Boomtown Days – and the CASI cookoff – in August. This presents a great opportunity for all cooks and supporters to help Joplin rebuild.

If you can attend the cookoff, please do. BUT, if you cannot attend, please register anyway. Every $25 entry fee will help. And, if you can kick in a bit extra (think of the gas money you’re not spending), all the better.
Attached is an entry form. You can obtain more information at:

I urge you all to help Joplin. It’s a cheap shot, but I’ve got to take it:
Missouri is nicknamed the “Show Me” state; let’s “SHOW MISSOURI” our support.
Thanks, CASI.
The Attachment will be in tomorrow's blog.  Having technical difficulties making it work in the blog.

From LARRY Burruss:
******* ATTENTION *********

August 13, 2011

It is approximately 30 days until the U. S. National Open Chili Championship at Cabela’s in Buda, Texas. We have requested 70 degree weather for that weekend.

Speaking of official requests, our official hotel, Hampton Inn is extending a special room rate for cooks at $65.00 plus tax or approximately $73.45 drive-out price (per night) for Friday and Saturday nights. The special group code is CHXCCG and the telephone number is (512) 295-4900.

The hotel is within walking distance should you get the urge. Better to drive.

Friday night will feature something to go with the weather, nothing hot and heavy. We will feed around 7:00 p.m. This will allow our working cooks time to get here after work.

Your paid entry post marked by August 1st will entitle you to a goody bag and allow us time for ordering.

With 150 chilies turned in for judging we will be able to automatically qualify the top 5 chilies and 1st place show for TICC. Come help us reach our goal and make this happen.

For additional information contact Larry Burruss at (512) 353-8895.
