From  Bill Heslop:

Friends and Fellow Chiliheads,
We have some great times ahead in the Chili World in Birmingham for the next couple months. First of all, our friends Teresa and Rory Hartley have asked us to present a Chili Cooking Demonstration at their Homewood restaurant on the first Saturday afternoon in February, the 4th. This will be a great time to learn how to cook chili , both for competition and for the family. I will have people in the audience help prepare the chili and we will all have a taste after it is cooked. The first 50 people in attendance will receive a Goodie Bag with recipes, gear list, resource list, and applications for The State of Alabama POD and CASI. Food and beverage will be graciously sold by Hart and Soul. Questions and conversation are encouraged.

May 3rd is the date for the State of Alabama Open Chili Championship in Hoover. It will be held at and benefit Aldridge Gardens. This is the most beautiful setting for a chili cook-off that I have ever seen. This is the only qualifying cook-off in Alabama this year. As a qualifying cook-off, the first 3 place Alabama residents in this event automatically qualify for invitation to the Terlingua International Chili Championship in Terlingua, Texas on Saturday, November 3, 2012. The winner is the Championship Chili Cook in Alabama for 2012.

Below please find two fliers; feel free to print and distribute them. Post them in your brake room or place of business. Chili is fun and we encourage your participation. All proceeds from the March 3rd event go to benefit Aldridge Gardens. If you have any questions, call me or write me using the information below.

From Bob Horan:

I have known Jim Ezell for many years and throughout that time I am always amazed that he has been able to come through time and again for CASI, it takes a special type of person to accomplish this task. Having been involved with raising funds for both CASI and HLS&R throughout the years, I can fully appreciate the work that goes into getting corporations and distributorships to donate monies toward your events. Those who think this task is easy, need to walk in Jim's shoes for a while - going hat in hand, trying to convince a company that their interest lies in associating themselves with your 'product' is never easy - you are competing for their advertising/promotion dollars, and those dollars are budgeted for the regions where they will have the most impact. Simple Business 101. It's nice to think that these companies will be falling all over themselves to 'donate to your charity', but the reality is that charitable donations are not as deductible as business expenses, and advertising managers must see a direct benefit for the dollars spent.

Instead of negating what Jim has accomplished, CASI should be thanking him profusely, for CASI, TICC, and the Scholarship Fund would not be what they are today without Jim's involvement and labor. 'Nuff said.

From Kelly Brignon:
Just a reminder that Gary and I will be at the Board meeting on Saturday and should anyone attending (board members and chili cooks) need a spice order brought to them, I am more than happy to do so. I won’t have an inventory with me; I’ll only bring orders that people have asked me to bring. They can email me, call me, or place an order online and simply leave instructions in the “notes” part of the order form.

Just a reminder about the donation to the Scholarship Fund for Ladies State instead of trinkets!
