Where to Stay for the State of Alabama POD CCO

June 25th 2011.

Our cookoff will be held at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Alabama. The entrance to the Park is close to the intersection of I-65 and Hwy 119 about 15 miles South of Birmingham. Head West off Exit 246 on I-65 for about 4 pickup lengths and turn left at Oak Mountain Lake Rd. Follow the signs into the park and when you get to the Guard Shack ask for directions to the Lakeside Pavilion – that’s where the cookoff will be held. Admittance fee taken at the shack is $3.00 for young people and $1.00 for senior citizens.

There are several places to stay in and around the Park. The Park has 85 RV sights and 60 camping sites. Call 205-620-2527 for information and reservations. If your idea of roughing it is a stay at the local Inn, try one of the following, each of which is within a few hundred yards of the entrance to the Park:

• Comfort Suites in Pelham, 1-800-230-4134,2235 Pelham Parkway, Pelham, AL ,352

• 14 Hampton Inn & Suites Pelham/Birmingham, 1-800-997-5148, 232 Cahaba Valley Rd., Pelham, AL 35214

• Holiday Inn Express in Pelham, 1-800-997-5149, 260 Cahaba Valley Rd., Pelham, AL 35214

• Sleep Inn in Pelham, 1-800-230-4132, 200 Southgate Dr., Pelham, AL 35214

• Travelodge in Pelham, 1-205-987-2233, 410 Oak Mountain Circle, Pelham, AL 35214

The Park opens at 7:00 AM on Saturday, June 25th. Outside the Park you can have breakfast at the Cracker Barrel, Krystal, Wendy’s, and several other places. The Lakeside Pavilion is supposed to be cleaned by 9:00 AM but you can come earlier, set up, and get started.

If you have any questions about the cookoff, call Bill Heslop at 972-743-3426 (cell) or 205-268-5557 (office). See you at Oak Mountain

From Barbara Herrin, Scholarship Program Administrator:
Grades Reminder

I want to remind some of the scholarship recipients that I will need a copy of your grades for the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 semesters in order to ascertain whether or not the recipient will continue to receive scholarship money from CASI. I have had several students send me their grades already and I applaud them for being prompt. But I still have not heard from some. If you know any of the scholarship recipients, please remind them to send their grades so that they can continue to receive scholarship money from CASI. Our plan is to issue the checks before mid-August, but we will be unable to do that if I do not have a copy of the grades.

From Sharren Christopherson and Travis Tonzi:
It's getting close to the time of the Payson CCO which is July 3, 2011. This looks to be a great cook-off. Cooks will receive a Bottle of Wine, an Apron, plus a "GOODY BAG". Sound good HUH? Get ready for this upcoming CCO. Travis would really like to hear from you, if you plan to come to this cook-off. So let him know what your plans happen to be at his E-mail address tatonzi@cox.net

Have a GREAT weekend and cook some chili!  It is really going to be HOT here in TX!!
