NOTE:  There have been some questions concerning the 2nd Post on Friday.  We the CASI Board of Directors have requested a vote from the Great Pepper's concerning the situation below.

Dorathy,

I am in trouble again. I swear I sent you an email telling you about the Washington State CASI CCO on Sunday 8 Aug in Olympia, WA. I never received an envelope from you with the paperwork. Is there anything you can do about that now? The Farmer's Market is all ready for it and I am getting lots of cooks to say they will be there. I guess it is a good thing I am no longer going to be Great Pepper anymore. Maybe the next guy will do better. We got 15 cooks at the Pod CCO so we are off probation for that (except I was not the one who promoted the Pod CCO last year that put us on probation for that one.) I am really sorry to put you in such a position but I don't know what to do now. Thank you for your support if you can or still if you can't thank you for thinking about it anyway. Ken Peach8 August 2010 Olympia, WA

Please help me or a mob of chili cooks will be using me for their meat at the homestyle event on 8 Aug.

Dear Ken, I don't have any record of an email from you about this event,I wish I could do something for you, but a cookoff cannot be sanctioned if it is not published in the Trails, and July 15th was the last day to do that. Sorry I can't help you with this.

You can have the cookoff just for fun, but it will not be sanctioned. Dorathy (This is the correct answer according to our Rulebook.  Dorathy did her job.)

Here are the actions that followed:  I sent the following information to all of the Great Peppers.  I did have 3 messages return as undeliverable. If you are a GP and did not get this email, please send me your correct email address.  I am going to give you the background information. Earlier this week (above email) Ken Peach (Puget Pod) contacted Dorathy telling her that he could not find the paperwork for the Washington State Chili Championship and would she resend it to him. Dorathy replied that she had never sent the paperwork because the CCO had never been scheduled. She quoted the rule (Rule V.A.2.) “All cookoffs MUST be publicized in the TERLINGUA TRAILS in the month previous to the entrance deadline.”

After that email was sent to Ken, I received some emails and phone calls from CASI members from the Washington State area expressing their disappointment in not caring about CASI enough to waiver the Rule this time. Ken did find the paperwork that he had filled out and believed that a copy had been send to Dorathy. In the confusion following the death of his wife this spring, he thought that he had misplaced this paperwork.

I then sent the information to the Rules Committee who reviewed it and provided me with the following information. The Rules Committee reviews the provided details of a possible Rule infraction and then determines if it is indeed a rule infraction. They determined that this is definitely a rule infraction and that they could not waiver this rule only report their findings. They recommended that since this was the Washington State Open not just a small CCO that this issue should be brought to the BOD for evaluation.

I forwarded the information to the BOD, but reminded them that the GPs are the group who have the authority to waive a rule. A discussion began among the BOD.

Since the BOD directors cannot waive a rule and the fact that it takes a vote of the GP’s as well as rge BODs to either change rules that are submitted as new rules or amendments to the current rule at the GPM. The BOD is responsible for the Bylaws, not the Rules. Therefore, since this was the Washington State Open Championship, we voted to send the information to the GPs for their consideration.

Since we are trying to have better communication with the CASI members, and this was an issue that members from the West Coast had expressed their concerns that there is a lack of understanding and caring about promoting CASI especially in this area of the country where CASI has and is struggling, we, the BOD felt that this issue and the information should be sent to the GPs for their consideration.

I did not personally send out the information because at the present time I am in MO at Cliff’s Mother’s and not only does she not have internet, she does not own a computer. This is a small town and I have to find a WI FI hotspot to be able to send emails, etc. The other problem is that at home I receive emails on Outlook express, when I am on the road I can only get my emails be signing into Suddenlink. My group contact addresses are not in the address book in Suddenlink. Since Roger is the Secretary and he also has the group contact list for the GP’s, I asked him to forward this information to you, the GPs.

Yes, allow the Washington State Championship to be sanctioned, or

No, do not allow the Washington State Championship to be sanctioned.

Please reply with your vote to both Renee Moore & Janice Miller rmoore@gulfshoresal.gov, garjans@suddenlink.net no later than 9:00 Wednesday August 4th.
