CASI Return to Ontario a Smashing Success

The Lions Club in Burk's Falls, Ontario brought off the first CASI cookoff in Ontario in many years very successfully this past weekend. The crowd that came were treated to a fine day of music, country jamboree style, and some fine Texas style chili enthusiastically prepared by the competing cooks. Even though it rained most of the day a fine time was had by all involved. The bloody caesars were flowing early in the day to help fortify the cooks against the rainy weather. Cooks and prospective sponsors are already talking about having this and other cookoffs in the area next year.

Cooks who Q'd for TICC, as this was the Provincial Championship, are looking forward to coming toTerlingua. Passing around some typical Krazy Flats photos and giving the winner some "starter beads" definitely helped in this regard.

The friendliness and hospitality of all involved made this one of the "most fun" cookoffs I've participated in outside of Texas in a long time. For those who like to travel, and believe me this would be a trek for any CASI cooks south of the border, you would not be disappointed coming to an Ontario cookoff next year.

Memorial services for Charles Atherton, 60, of Johnson County, will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, August 11, 2012 in the Crosier Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Charlie, as he was known to most, passed away on his 60th birthday, Friday, July 27, 2012 in Fort Worth. He was born on July 27, 1952, also in Fort Worth to William Atherton and Irma Graham Atherton. He was of the Baptist faith and worked over 25 years with Hawk Electronics. Charles was known for his big heart. He enjoyed cooking for his friends and family whom he loved and was loved by greatly. He was an accomplished Chili cook off competitor, who won several competitions over the years. He was also an avid animal lover who rescued many of God's creatures and gave them a better life. If you were a relative or a friend in need, he would always be there. Charles enjoyed traveling across the country as well as internationally. His love of life and giving nature will be missed by his family and many friends that he leaves behind. Charles was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include one uncle, Sam Atherton of Fort Worth, and aunts; Dorothy Atherton of Fort Worth, and Dorothy Atherton of Conroe, numerous dear cousins, friends and extended family.

I am pleased to announce there will be a CASI Newsletter Contest this year.  The TOP 3 winners will be presented a nice trophy from the stage at TICC on Saturday.

I highly encourage your POD to submit your newsletter for consideration.  A newsletter for the purpose of this contest is:  "A document containing information for POD members that is sent to the POD membership by email or the U.S. Postal Service". If your POD has not had a newsletter - this would be a good time to "create" one.  FACEBOOK and WEB SITES are good means of communicating with members, but a POD newsletter is the basic communication for ALL your members.

The contest rules are as follows:

  1.  A POD may submit from one to three newsletters published during 2012.  The deadline for entries received is September 20, 2012.

  2.  Entries will be sent to Ken Rodd by email - casihotrodd@aol.com or postal mail to:  Ken Rodd, 7009 S IH-35,  Austin, TX 78744

  3.  The newsletters will be judged by 6 judges from various parts of the USA.  Judges do not know who the other judges are.

The U. S. National Open Championship is only a week away. We are seeking help in judging area such as drink runners and table monitors. If you are willing to assist us please contact me at janieb@alertservices.com. Also the Hotel deadline for the special rate is today, August 3^rd. The Code to use is CHXCCO. A big “Thank You” to everyone that pre-registered. The allows us to make plans for the cook-off. Looking forward to seeing you at Cabela’s on August 22, 2012.

NOTE:  The agenda for the Friday and Saturday Meetings at the Great Pepper's Meeting will be in draft form later this week.  We plan to have 3 or 4 breakout sessions on Friday.

Remember that if you are running for a director position on the CASI Boad of Director's, you must have your nomination package to me no later than August 15.

If you are running for the Executive Director Position, your nomimation package must be sent to me no later than August 15.

If you are running for the CASI Scholarship Program Administrator, this package must also be to me no later than August 15.

If you want something included on the Agenda for either the CASI Board of Director's Meeting or the Saturday Great Pepper's Meeting, please have it to me as soon as posible.

I presently have only about half of the Annual Credential Report.  It is due to me by August 15.
