Not that red is the only color-in Santa Fe he'll find classic green chili, in Los Angeles a white chicken chili...and even a yellow version, spiked with mangos and bananas. Finally, we'll hit a Himalayan restaurant to try a border-bending meaty chili that proves the old adage: Once you go yak, you never go back!

CALLING ALL CHILI COOKS!!!!! Okay now that I may or may not have gotten your attention.... this is a combination reminder and request regarding the St. Paul Lutheran Memorial Chili and BBQ Cook Off (LSBS RULES) Saturday March 17th held at the Tonkawa Falls Park in Crawford, Texas. It is located off of Hwys 317 and 185 There are full hook ups on a first come first serve.  The cost $15.00 a night for the cook off only. Plenty of shade trees for day trippers ! And we have a NEW COVER for the PAVILION!!!! Chili Entry fee is $18.00 Turn in time 2 pm.  It is CHILI GRIND ONLY!!!!!! JUNIORS ages 8-17 chili entry fee is $10.00. Turn in time 1pm. 1st Place winner will take home a hand painted Wendell Rankin Stove !! MEAT and SPICES PROVIDED ONLY ! They must provided everything else. ( NOW THIS is where I am asking.  Just in case a little one doesn't have a pot or spoon, stove etc, if you are coming please bring an extra one with you, and maybe even an extra set of spices.) Thank you in advance ! BBQ Entry Fee is $65 for 1 or all meats.  Again LSBS Rules Apply (1/2 chicken, Pork Spare ribs, Brisket)  It is 80% pay back to top 5 winners as well as trophies. DRY PINTO BEANS are required.   Entry Fee $ 5.00 with 100%payback and trophies to the top 3 places. There is going to be a Raffle, silent auction, bake sale, 50/50 Raffle and other events TBA. This is the only event this Church has for raising money for any improvements for their cemetery.  They have really made some major improvements since we have been doing the chili cook off's for this benefit.  They hope to be able to continue to do so with our ongoing support. Sunday March 18,2012, The St. Paul Lutheran Memorial Chili Cook Off will be held at Tonkawa Falls Park in Crawford,Texas off of Hyws 317 and 185. Entry fee is $18.00.  Turn in time is 1pm. CHILI GRIND ONLY!!!!! This is the 2nd day cook off for the St. Paul Lutheran Church.  This is the only time they have any kind of an event to raise money for their church improvement fund, so come on out and let's continue to show our support.  We really do help them so much more than you know ....Let's make this a truly BIG TURN OUT FOR THEM BOTH DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  See previous days cook off.     And they did that at the "Winter's Almost Over" chili cookoff in Jacksboro.

Jacksboro volunteer firefighter, says, "It's kind of an idea that we had. Somebody came up with it and we were like 'Hey, why don't we try to break a world record?' So we investigated it and said let's do it!"

    Jon Reese, the event's co-organizer, says, "We've already tasted it and it is good. It's good eating chili."

    "It was a lot of organization getting around and getting all the ingredients together," Sanchez says. 

"We had some great sponsors that stood behind us and helped make this event happen," Reese says.

    Employees of Jack County Tank Trucks built a custom pot big enough to hold all the ingredients.  And speaking of ingredients, there were a lot of them: 500 pounds of meat, 390 pounds of tomato sauce, 630 pounds of beans, and 70 pounds of spices. All were donated.

    "We're all about community and charity, and it just made perfect sense to get this chili to good use feeding those people who can't feed themselves," Reese says.

    They estimate the chili will feed about three-thousand people.

    Volunteers will deliver some to residents of an assisted living center in Jacksboro,TX, but most of it will go to Faith Mission in Wichita Falls.

    Organizers say the bowl of chili weighed 1,525 pounds, breaking the current record by 100 pounds.

    Now all they have to do is submit their paperwork to the Guinness Book of World Records and then they'll be the official record holders.

NOTE: The CCO scheduled this weekend ( March 10,2012) for the Rattlesnake Round up in Sweetwater, TX has been CANCELED. There still will be a chili cookoff, but it will not be CASI sanctioned.!! If you know somebody planning on attending this and plans to enter CASI chili, please advise them of this change

HOWDY FOLKS.....IT'S HOWDY-ROO TIME! Yes....all pod members are gearing up for The 41st Annual "HOWDY-ROO" Chili and BBQ Cookoff on May 5th and The Highland Lakes Pod CCO/Backbone Creek on Sunday May 6th.

Charities for this years HR are: Marble Falls Helping Center, will do the silent auction; Marble Falls Boys Scout Troops 284, will have trash pickup duty and raffle sales; Marble Falls VFD, will work the concession.

As you all know, soooooo many things to do to get ready for such an event. Last year with 163 chili cooks. HOW GREAT IS THAT! Thank you Ruby for all your dedication in doing paper work, getting sponsors, permits, judges, organizing trophies, making deposits and much more. Thank you Fred and Melba for the great job you do organizing the vendors. Thank you Johnny Campbell for designing the HR flyer and heading up the BBQ and bean cooks. It's Friday at last.  It is RAINING here is West Texas.  Even though it is cold, many of us are considering do the Thank You God Rain Dance in the wet!!!  Have a GREAT weekend.  I hope chili is part of your weekend plan and I hope you get that point!!!
