Steve Shepherd came through his surgery well, according to wife Karen. They repaired his mitral valve, and did a bypass. Please continue to keep Steve and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
From Mama Sue Caffey:
28th SIGHTFEST is now History, but the melody lingers on. What a rip roaring good time was had by all at Giddy Ups, even though many of us had heavy hearts.
We will miss our announcer and good friend J.J. McMillan. He brought liveliness to our party and had a good time doing it. Because of forthcoming rain, we did not want to have a repeat of Ocotber, so we parked most everyone on the road, thereby parking some in the next county, pert nigh. Good sports they were and they did and never complained. Thank you for that. Didn't have to eat all of the wonderful stew and cornbread, because a whole bunch of us were there. Along with that, we had "Company Beer", so folks were full and happy.

Rose City 29th annual CCO had one of the largest crowds ever at Gander Mountain, Arts & Crafts vendors set up amongst the cooks, 44 cooks and 10 Show teams with a high participation vying for the People's Choice award. Even with all the extra chili being prepared and served, and with the huge public crowds coming out to enjoy the weather and a bowl of red, we literally ran out of everything, from over 550 tasting cups, spoons and all the chili pots were empty. A big thank you to Doris Greenlees, Spud Griffin (in training) and Denning Key for running the preliminary round, to James Espinosa for the tallying crew and a special "Thank You - We Appreciate You" to Bruce Young for his willingness to take charge of the Wings contest at the last minute. We are excited to introduce Brooke Longino and her dedication to teaching her children to cook chili and willingness to take charge of our Junior competition. From The Air Force Times:
Airman organizes chili cook-off in Baghdad
Staff report Posted : Thursday Mar 11, 2010 17:52:43 EST
While preparing for her second deployment to Iraq, Air Force Capt. Roxzanna Ponce De Leon went to the Terlingua International Chili Championship in Texas.
A light bulb went off: Ponce De Leon thought she and her fellow service members should have a similar event after she arrived in Baghdad.
It was a good idea on paper, but she’d forgotten a few details: for instance, ground beef, broth, bullion, tomato sauce, cookstoves, propane bottles, sample cups and other essential cook-off ingredients weren’t available at Sather Air Base.
But Ponce De Leon didn’t give up easily. She contacted the Chili Appreciation Society International in the U.S. and explained her idea. The society mobilized its members and soon, 200 pounds of meat, as well as chili spices, sauce, broth, cups and other supplies were on their way to Iraq.
The cook-off is scheduled for April 4.
That is all for this week. Have a GREAT Chili weekend!
