While I realize there are three worthy cookoffs in the DFW to choose from on Saturday, I would like to make a pitch for the 4th Annual Red Hillard CCO. This event is being held at the VFW in Lewisville at 997 E. Highway 121 Business (just north of Lewisville proper) and benefs the Veterans Relief Fund. For those who don't know them, this is the group you have seen perform show as the USO Show, lip-syncing to the oldies. They are truly a great group of fun people. We will have jackpot beans for a $5 entry with a noon turn in. CASI chili (grind only) is $18 with a 1:00 pm turn-in. Junior chili is free and has a 2:00 p.m. turn-in. There will be a 50/50 drawing and there is always a great raffle table. There are more details and directions (very easy to find) in the latest Trails. Will be getting the park ready on Thursday.....then in the afternoon we have been asked, by the Chamber, to welcome and help serve chili to about 100 Purple Heart Soldiers and their families. Golf on Friday, call Doc if you have questions on golf, registration is from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m., cooks party at 7 p.m. and music by Nigel and Lynn Delgado. This year our cooks meal will be Mexican Cruisine. Pod members are asked to bring horsdoeuveres or deserts for the cooks party. Saturday evening pot luck an hour or so after announcements. Sunday is Backbone Creek CCO so plan on staying over and get more POINTS!

On Monday, I told you about a CCO that Concho Valley Chili Pod is having this weekend in the Ghost Town of Sherwood, TX. Will on Monday Cliff and I drove out to the Court House. It is easy to find. Take Highway 67 from either direction and about a mile east of Mertzon there is a sign that say Highway 72. There is only one direction that you can turn. Take it and go about 1 ½ miles and there you are. There is plenty of room with minimum electrical hookups (110). It has a great covered area for judging. There will be Arts and Crafts and a lot of fun. Come join us!

Here are a few pictures from the Hellhole Cookoff; as you can see, it was a beautiful day and the scenery was absolutely gorgeous. We only had 10 cooks, and my husband and I were the only ones who didn't make California-style chili. I've never seen some of those ingredients in chili before! Rick wants to do it again next year, so I'm planning to work with him and try to get some of the people in his organization interested in cooking according to CASI rules. (This CCO was held in Hellhole Canyon Open Space Preserve, Valley Center, CA. It was a first try for this CCO and because it did not have enough cooks it was not sanctioned. Hopefully they can do it again next year and get enough CASI cooks to make it a sanctioned CCO)

Today I am going to identify the Finance Committee. This was the only Committee that I did not identify when I discussed the 5 Special Committees as outlined in the Bylaws. Members of this committee are Ed Blair, Chairman John Goforth, Co-Chairman and Jim Ezell, Member. The Finance Committee will assure the financial well-being of the corporation, adjust budget models, insure financial accountability, and oversee the actions of the Treasurer.

Thank you to all who came out to cook chili, help out with our cook off, and participate in such a great event that benefits an even greater cause. We hope to see everyone back next year as we strive to raise even more money to fight child abuse and neglect in Ellis County. This was our biggest year ever! If you are looking for a relaxing place to cook a few pot's of chili this weekend come on out to Lee Newton Park in Jasper, GA. We have the CASI Peachtree State POD CCO Friday night 8 PM turn-in and the Georgia State Championship CCO Saturday with a 12:00 Noon turn-in. The event is held in conjunction with the IBCA Georgia State BBQ Championship so there is plenty of BBQ to eat as well. If you have not been to this CCO before it is held in a beautiful park there in town, plenty of room for RV's and to stay out of the smoke from the BBQ's, they have electrical and water hook-up's in the park that can be used also for no charge. Come on out and have a good time in the Georgia Mountains. The park is located at the intersection of Business SR-53 & Mary Street in Jasper, GA, 1 mile east of SR-5/515, enter form the back of the park, you will see the gate. See you there!

Bill and Star, Maggie, and Lucille will perform agility and even ‘stupid’ pet tricks throughout the day. So come to Gander Mountain in Corsicana and spend the day with us. POLICY ON CASI SPONSORSHIP
The CASI Sponsorship Program is a very important part of the national and TICC experience. The funding and other support we get from sponsors plays a huge part in CASI’s financial success and stature as a 501(c)3 tax free charitable corporation. Due to the importance of obtaining and keeping sponsors for CASI and TICC, the following policy shall be in force.

Any requests for information relative to CASI Sponsors or Sponsorship must be made to the Sponsorship Chairman. If there is someone who may be interested in becoming a CASI sponsor, please notify the Sponsorship Chairman who will, in turn, contact the potential sponsor and investigate any possibility.

If a CASI member wishes to contact a sponsor, they must go through the Sponsorship Chair. It is crucial to our relationship with the sponsor that the proper channels be followed when communications are made. Established lines of communication have been developed with the pertinent departments of the sponsors. Approaching sponsors from a different direction can cause distractions and confusion.

Many times the generosity of our sponsors, or statements made by them, leaves the impression that anyone can call at any time and request assistance. This is not the case. Failure to observe the established policy can easily lead to CASI becoming a nuisance and, ultimately, damage our partnership.

These great businesses have extended their hand and checkbook for a mutually beneficial experience with CASI. Let’s do every thing we can to respect and support their products. We don’t want to wear out that welcome.

We are home from Texas Ladies State Championship. All though there was a lot of rain, it didn't stop us from having fun.

This is the first CCO that qualified for our new rule II.VII.E1d d. CURRENT STATE, REGIONAL OR INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS WITH OVER 150 ENTRIES AND CHILIS JUDGED - A current Men's State, Women's State, State Open, Regional or International Championship that has 150 entries and chilis judged will automatically qualify first (1st) through fifth (5th) Places on any given year becoming effectively immediately.

There were many bands that the crowds could enjoy and the events were a Brisket cook off, Salsa, CASI chili, local chili, Beans and others. The Events Committee will be responsible for general oversight and articulation with CASI’s major events: TICC, regional and state opens. The Events Committee will be the first point of contact for prospective new opens and will help existing opens achieve success. HOWDY FOLKS........................ Some people might believe a sure sign of spring is the bluebonnets. But for true chiliheads, Howdy-Roo heralds spring in BEAUTIFUL Marble Falls. This annual event is once again taking over Johnson Park on Saturday May 2nd. For 38 years now Howdy-Roo has been a spring rite of passage in Marble Falls. It started as one of the original festivals in the area. The Highland Lakes Pod is inviting everyone to come to The 38th Annual Highland Lakes Pod Chili Cookoff "HOWDY-ROO." The park is beautiful as ever and is waiting for us all to come together again this year and have some good fellowship.

On Saturday, Lonestar Barbecue Association will be handling the Barbecue. Bean Turn in is at noon and there are no rules for the bean competition. CASI chili turn in is at 2 p.m. Registration will be Friday 3-5 p.m. and Saturday 8:30-10:30 a.m.

The cooks party on Friday night will be a new menu this year. Deserts and horsdoeuvres will be welcomed for the cooks party. Lynn and Nigel will be providing our music on Friday evening.

We have a wonderful selection of vendors that have signed up for your shopping pleasure. And don't forget the golf tournament on Friday for cooks/spouses only....$25 for a round of golf and that includes the golf cart. Call Doc for more information (830-613-8666) or you can sign up Friday morning by 11 a.m. at Doc's camp.

Pot luck on Saturday evening after announcements about 7 p.m. chili time and then will have Dawn playing our favorites on Saturday evening. If what makes you happy is a game of dominos, cards or etc then there is room for that and always someone wanting to join up for a good game. The park is nice in the evenings to relax and visit with our friends.

And again this year we will have the one and only Voice of CASI "BOOMER KINGSTON" for our MC on Saturday.

The President and Executive Director are ex-officio members of all committees. Alan is in charge of promoting our current TICC Champion, Susan.

As I mentioned yesterday, There are 5 committees. This is in accordance with the CASI Bylaws, Article 7.02 which states: "Five Special Committees will be appointed for the purpose of handling specific portions of CASI business. These committees will be made up of two or more Directors and members-at-large, as appropriate. One Director, appointed by the President, will be the chairperson of each committee.

(a) The Executive Committee will include the CASI officers and Executive Director. It will address leadership and general administrative issues."

The Executive Committee is Renee Moore, President; Bill Pierson, Vice President; Roger Foltz, Secretary; Ed Blair, Treasurer; and myself. We have been active this year. On several occasions we have addresses some of the general administration issues which have surfaced. If one of us has been contacted about an administration issue, we will address it as a committee and then give our recommendation to the rest of the board.
