The Heart Of Texas Triple Crown BBQ and Chili Cook Off at the Hog Creek Icehouse in Waco this past weekend the 24th and 25th of June has now come and gone, and yes it was HOT and WINDY! but we had a wonderful turn out, We had 53 BBQ teams ( for the winners you will have to go to the Lone Star web site, sorry), and 42 beans. There were 19 Chili cooks! I would like to THANK EVERYONE who came out to cook! Without you it would not have been possible! Thank you to Boomer for doing our announcements again this year, and for doing the added job of being my table monitor! Thanks to John Caffey for being my head Judge; Sue Caffey for double checking all figures for me; Jennifer Collier, Debbie Roberts, Debbie Mckamie; y tally team: John Caffey and Boomer.  Please forgive me for whoever else I know I have forgotten. I am sure there are several, and it is not to be mean, it is simply lack of sleep. (LOL) But if you were at the event, you will all remember a little guy named Brad Roberts who was all over the place.  He has cooked in a couple of Jr. CCO's (took 2nd at SOT Pod this year).  He worked VERY hard from Wednesday to Sunday nigh,t and is already planning on being out there next year.  It looks like we have a future (CASI and BBQ cooks) on our hands folks!!!! I want to give him a special "Thank You."  He worked his little butt off! And of course thank you to Diana McMillian and Dee Dee for running tables and helping with everything they did. And of course thanks to Donna Conrad who started this event. Now onto Saturdays results.

From Renee Moore:

Bad News with a Solution

The CASI Board was advised at this weekend’s Board Meeting that a burn ban is in effect for Brewster County.  This ban prohibits the use of ‘any’ outdoor fire sources, including propane stoves, grills, BBQ pits, fireworks, camp fires, etc.  In other words, no chili or BBQ cooking.  The County has been asked if they would approve our event if cooking were done in the pavilion & stage areas; they advised that would not be authorized either.

Even though we are over 4 months from TICC, we would be remiss in not addressing this problem.  It is our fondest hope and prayer that rain will fall in the Terlingua area, as well as in the many areas that are currently experiencing drought conditions and wildfires, but we must be prepared if it doesn’t.

As many of you are aware, CASI is required to obtain a Mass Gathering Permit prior to TICC.  In the event this permit is not approved by Brewster County, we would be unable to hold the event.  To ensure the approval of the permit, we must take action at the Great Peppers Meeting in September to allay any fears officials might have regarding TICC.

The Board is prepared to request that the Great Peppers pass an emergency rule change that would allow cooking of chili in an enclosed structure, such as an RV or travel trailer, during TICC, if necessary.  This rule change would not extend to tent structures.

If this emergency rule is passed, it would also necessitate those chili cooks who have RVs and trailers to allow those cooks without such to open their “homes” to them so everyone is given an opportunity to participate.  Knowing the generosity of the chili family, I’m sure this would not be a problem.  We would compile a list of those needing to be accommodated on the day of the cookoff and match them with chili cooks.

TICC will NOT be cancelled.  This is our 45th Anniversary and chili cooks are some of the most resourceful individuals in the world.  We will keep you apprised of the situation.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me or any of the Board if you have any questions.

Please pray for rain in all those areas currently experiencing drought conditions!

Renee

From Bill Heslop:
Fellow Chiliheads,
We have had some welcomed rain the last several days in the Birmingham. We have a strong possibility of scattered showers on Saturday, the day of our chili cookoff. In our cooking area we have a shelter at Oak Mountain State Park with 25 picnic tables under it and 2 restrooms a few feet away. Those who cook or decide to visit, eat, or nap under the pavilion are welcomed to use the tables as long as we have a couple tables to use for administration at one end of the pavilion. Remember to bring what you whatever you would like to eat and drink with you as there are no vendors in the park. See you Saturday, rain or shine.

June 18th Lone Oak, TX
It was hot but we had a real good breeze.  So it was not bad under the large metal cover and with lots of shade trees around the place.  We had a preacher a county judge and the rest of us cooking so we were well protected.

From John Goforth:
Sundays events caused the CIS CASI website to be down.  A fire that occurred in the IH-10 area between Boerne and Comfort Sunday afternoon. By news accounts the fire burned 140 acres and over 80 firefighters were involved in getting it under control. This fire got within a couple of hundred yards of the Hill Country Software office. As we were continually advised by law enforcement officials to be ready to leave on a moments notice, the server and other computer equipment were removed from the building as a precautionary
measure. Every step was taken to ensure the safety of records, both CASI and HCSS. The equipment was once again up and running this morning with no loss of data. As I live next to the HCSS property, I got to experience first hand the possibility of total loss of my property and witnessed the destruction of a portion of the RV park located less the 1/4 mile away. Sorry for any inconvenience caused due to safety concerns for life and property.

From Darin Jester:

From Ruby Ross:

TMS winners are suppose to have a winner's jacket. I am sorry for the delay but my supplier has moved, lost digitalized logos, is now in hospital from an accident and does not answer the telephone or his e-mails. I am going to PLAN B. I have dealt with many different people in my life in business and this is the first time I have experienced someone like this. I will let you know of approximate date to expect them. Sorry for the delay but as I said Plan B is in the making. You will get your jackets. Thanks for your patience. Love Ruby
From Jen Windsor, TallyMaster:
Do to the unavailability of the website and CIS I was unable to do my Sunday job of printing off the list of qualified cooks who would be receiving their Q cards for this week. I have 10 cookoffs to log as well. If you have any questions about cookoff results or points please contact me directly.

Thanks for your patience, I know mine are worn thin.
