From Dave Hewlett:
The season for chili points is now ¾ over. The dog days of summer are upon us and it is time to get the rest of the needed points before it gets any hotter in Texas.
Come join us at the Garland Elks 2 day CCO. We have limited electric and water hook ups for a small fee. There will be water, soft drinks and beer on the judging table.
Friday night the Elks are having dinner of pork chops, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy for $7 per person. Karaoke band and a Texas hold’um event also.
On Saturday we will be having the CCO where the top 3 chili cooks get a new stove unpainted, 50/50 cash drawing, a raffle for a 3 foot tall metal rooster (carol just for you), a second raffle with a neat covered camping chair and many other items. We will have beans and junior cook off. Note beans will be one pot one cup.
On Sunday we have a CCO, a raffle for the painting services from Wendell Rankin to paint a stove that you supply donated by Dani Medlin. If you win a stove on Saturday then you need to win the stove painting on Sunday.
From Tonya Jester:
Hey! I know we’re a few weeks out, but I’m trying to get a prelim headcount for the cook’s party on Saturday 7/18.
Mr. Sutton is preparing the main course for that night and needs to know how much he needs to purchase.
Please let me know as soon as possible if you and/or others plan on attending.
Thanks!!!!!

From Ron Barnes:
We had a great weekend at Cabela’s in Fort Worth for the 33rd Annual Cowtown CASI cookoff this past weekend. On Saturday, we had 131 CASI cooks, seven show teams and a record 31 junior cooks brave the heat and wind. Congrats to Doodie Johnson on his win and upcoming trip to St. Thomas (I’m sure he and Babs will have a great time!). Sunday brought more heat and wind, along with 34 CASI cooks and four show teams. The Cowtown Pod was able to raise approximately $6,000 for the DFW Center for Autism. A big thanks to Lee Ann Embry and her crew at the Autism Center for their help. Also a big thank you to Jim ”Dog” Luhn for running the show and to Boomer Kingston for lending his voice to the event. And now, on to the winners!

There were over 50 chili's turned in at the Hanging Judge, and we were very pleased to see six pleople of Kansas City that made the 4 hour trip to cook.
On Friday night, Larry Velasquez from Mission, Kansas won, then on Saturday every person that placed in the Top 10 chili are members of the Gladiator Chili Pod!
Believe me that's exciting for us.
We are so looking forward to being seated at the Great Pepper meeting.
The collection of cooks was excellent as usual, and Patti Watkins, the Great Pepper of the Belch Pod did an outstanding job with this large cook-off. If we could have just turned down the heat...around 100 degrees with high humidity...still it was an outsanding cook-off and Mark Bass from Oklahoma won even after having quadruple bypass surgery in the last 30 days...WOW! He danced a jig and hugged the Hooter girls presenting the trophy.
There were several first time cooks, and mixed in with the veterans this was a great example of Chili, Charity, and fun. Your fellow CASI director Bo Prewitt can tell you more. He was in the Top 10 Friday night as well. See you down the Chili Trail...
