Happy weekend to all of you. It is certainly "Chili" weather here this morning with a wind chili of 1 degree. We in West Texas are not use to this! There are lots of fun CCOs being held this weekend. Here is hoping that each of you do well at which ever one you chose to attend.

Mavis Nelson fell and broke her hip in 3 places I believe Tuesday. The Dr. has her patched up with a rod, plate, pins and screws. If all goes well She is supposed to be released from the Hospital to go Home Friday evening. She is supposed to get some rehab at Home, as all who know her she refused to go to a rehab, but has plenty of support at home. She is currently in Providence Hospital in Waco. Room 401.

Please keep my family in your prayers as we are about to make some very difficult decisions. My Mother has shown great strength through this entire ordeal. I want to appologize for not having posted anything yesterday or earlier today. My father had a turn for the worse yesterday and we had to call the family. By a miricle today, he has come out of his coma, knows us and is still in critical condition, but is awake. Thanks for all your prayers and calls, etc. We can not thank each of you enough for your caring and love.

I need to post this again tonight instead of on Tuesday Morning. My Father had an abscess of a rare microorganism usually found in patients who have been on heavy Chemo Therapy for more than a year. It is highly resistant and we are waiting for a report from Mayo Clinic to determine the antibiotic of choice. Our hope is that this result will be returned to here tomorrow. As of this time, things are not going well. Thank you for all the prayers, support and your chili love that we have had during the past week.

The Highland Lakes Chili Pod would like to say "Thank You" to all that came and celebrated New Years in Kingsland. This was a record breaking crowd for this New Years cookoff. The Kingsland American Legion were amazed at the crowd that turned out and was very gracious and thankful. As usual we had plenty to drink and eat to go along with our CHILI-CHARITY-FUN. I can't say THANK YOU enough for my breakfast crew. They were up early every morning to help get breakfast cooked and served by 9 a.m. The Highland Lakes Pod wishes all a Healthy-Happy & Prosperous NEW YEAR!

Here's hoping that everybody has had a great New Years and that 2010 will be one of the best years yet.

Indianapolis, IN – 28 cooks from 6 states traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana on New Years Eve to see what all of the Hoosier Hysteria was about. By 12:15am on January 1, 2010, Donna Hillen from Southaven, Mississippi was crowned our inaugural Champion. With temperatures outside dipping into the single digits, inside the Country Inn and Suites Hotel, was a toasty environment with the aroma of chili. Cooks from Maryland, Georgia, Mississippi, Kansas, Illinois and Indiana cooked and rang in the New Year with their friends and chili family. As the clock struck 12midnight EST, Champagne flowed and the winners were announced, resulting in the first points of 2010 being awarded. Results were:

I had a call from Joann Gaines this evening. Glyn had a stroke of Chritsmas eve and is in the South Helath Rehabilitation Hopsital wing 109 and will be starting therapy tomorrow. Please remember Glyn and Joann in your prayers.
Cliff, My Mother and I thank you for all the prayers and well wishes each of you have sent our way. As of today (Sun) things do not look good. It was not a brain tumor, but an abcess with a strong little known bsacteria that attacks patients who have had a great deal of Cemo therapy. He has not had any of this. They have not identified the bacteria type as as of yet, but he his not doing well and they can't seem to find the right course of antibiotics that will help. It is a apparnt that he may have suffered a stroke. I am doing the blog on Sun eve so that I can be at the hospital before 6 tomorrow to meet with his doctors. Thanks for the prayers. We still need them. Our Chili Friends are the BEST.

I had a call from Joann Gaines this evening. Glyn had a stroke of Chritsmas eve and is in the South Helath Rehabilitation Hopsital wing 109 and will be starting therapy tomorrow. Please remember Glyn and Joann in your prayers.
Cliff, My Mother and I thank you for all the prayers and well wishes each of you have sent our way. As of today (Sun) things do not look good. It was not a brain tumor, but an abcess with a strong little known bsacteria that attacks patients who have had a great deal of Cemo therapy. He has not had any of this. They have not identified the bacteria type as as of yet, but he his not doing well and they can't seem to find the right course of antibiotics that will help. It is a apparnt that he may have suffered a stroke. I am doing the blog on Sun eve so that I can be at the hospital before 6 tomorrow to meet with his doctors. Thanks for the prayers. We still need them. Our Chili Friends are the BEST.

We have been told that the surgery for removing the tumor will be on the the surgery schedule tomorrow. It is not definite as of yet. They are still trying to find a time on the schedule. I will post tonight if there is anything that needs to be posted. THANKS to our Chili Family for your prays and support. We have needed that and have felt your support and love. There is no better group of people than all of you guys! You are the GREATEST!
