From Richard Knight:

To the members of CASI:
I am announcing my candidacy for the position of Executive Director of CASI.
I am not a stranger to the CASI organization, having served on the original Board as Director and Tally Master. CASI has been part of my life for over 35 years and because of that, I want to see the organization continue to grow and succeed, and I want to help with both by contributing my business experience and knowledge to the Board and the membership. I understand the importance of working in a team environment with the Board members, the CASI Great Peppers, and the CASI membership to develop and implement strategies and solutions that deliver on our promise of having fun, while promoting chili and raising money for charitable causes.
I believe my passion for CASI to succeed and my presence on the Board will represent and benefit the current and future needs of the CASI membership. I will follow up with a letter to each Great Pepper to be presented in their pod meetings explaining my desire to be CASI’s Executive Director and asking for the Pod’s support.
Sincerely,
Richard Knight

From Ed Blair:
Midnight Madness Marathon Charity Baseball Game

If you've ever wondered why the chili name Ol' Jock Chili was coined and if you are not cooking chili somewhere, come observe first hand. As was customary in the day, my chili name was given to me by another chili cook -- Mayo. At the time she thought at 30 I was an old jock. Well, at the age of 60, now I'm a really old jock.

Once again, I'll be participating in a 12 hour marathon baseball game played to benefit a family in need. Each team is comprised of over 20 ball players from high school age to those collecting social security. There will even be a few ex-major leaguers participating. So, it is competitive enough to be a challenge, while charity minded enough to be fun.

Please remember though it's not nice to laugh too loudly should I strike out, make an error or fall down in my attempt to advance to the next base but do come out and enjoy yourself. The game is being played this year at the new minor league park in Sugar Land, TX on Sunday May 20th. Additional details can be viewed using this link:
View it in your browser.

Actually, if you are a Houston cook heading home from the Victoria Day After Cookoff, you'll probably drive right past the park off Highway 59 in Sugar Land. Our game starts at Noon on Sunday and runs until Midnight; so drop on by. There is no charge to get into the stadium. It would be great to have a cheering/jeering section and your presence would be appreciated.

Last year's event raised over $15,000 that went to help a family in which both the mother and a daughter had cancer. This year, we hope to see that contribution increase to help make a teenager's life better while he and his family cope with his incurable disease Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Again, there is no charge to get into the stadium and all contributions are purely voluntary. Having folks in the stands will be appreciated by all of the people putting on the event and those of us participating on the field.

New Posting

From Ed Blair:
I got a call about Caroll Shelby's death, seeking background info relative to his chili involvement.
Note:
Here is the information that I found:
Carroll Hall Shelby, the Texan who created the famous Shelby Cobra and uncounted other high-performance machines that turned the auto world on its ear, and made it a whole lot more fun for 50 years, died in Dallas Thursday night at age 89.

I am currently having trouble posting from my IPad! Be sure to check the Home Page (www.chili). Choose Upcomings which can be found on the left hand side of the page. This will give you the list. Thanks for your patients.

It's Firday and we are headed home.

From Jennifer Sherfiled:
A reminder to mark your calendars for this CCO.

I want to wish every Mother a Happy Mother's Day.  Have a great weekend.
It's Thursday.  We are still on vacation and we are having a great time!

From Gill Hewlett:
Come join us for this fun cook off. The City of Marshall is going all out for us. They want to make this cook off an annual event. Our Annual ETCCO will go back to its regular time the first weekend in October unless the drought or something else prohibits it.
