Friday Night March 11 at 6:30p.m. we are having a little cooks party. This party is an everyone for themselves party at the VFW 9095. The VFW 9095 is at 1121 Gamble Rd. Little Rock, Ar. 72211. The kitchen will be open till 8:00 serving hamburgers and snack foods. They are staying an hour later to accomodate us. And of course plenty of libations. Well it has been six days since chili turn in at the Texas Open in San Antonio`s Traders Village. This past week was the time to collect, clean, and inventory what was left over. I wanted to wait a week to see the input I would receive from the cooks. I must say I haven`t been dragged across the coals like I thought I might be. I have received good e-mails about the cook off from all over. That is very inspiring and I thank you. We sent a thank you out to the Southwest Independent School District students that came out and gave us an opening ceremony that brought Traders Village to a stand still. I had been talking to them for months and I am glad they were able to preform. I did not announce all the thank you`s I wanted to at the announcements because I knew the time was running late. I want to thank all the committee members, you guys went over the top in helping. A thank you is in order for the group that put the cups together Friday evening. That`s what you call stepping up. I know the committee did what was required, but the reason the 2011 Texas Open had 212 cooks and was the success it was, is because of YOU, the cooks reading this. I want to thank all of you for supporting the 2011 Texas Open and I hope you will continue to do so. If you have any suggestions or thoughts please e-mail them to me. It's going to be tough to match or beat this year in 2012, but we are starting now and sure going to give it a shot. Again thanks to all.

As you probably know by now, our transition to the new server was quite an ordeal. It didn’t help that Will and I were at a business conference in Las Vegas, and were somewhat helpless in helping with the situation. Will returned to the office on Thursday and I on Sunday afternoon. It seems that while installing the operating system on the new server we uncovered a problem that required engineers from Microsoft to resolve. I am told that multiple top flight engineers from Microsoft were logged onto our server, and were creating code changes to resolve the problem. It seems that throughout my entire career I have always had a way of uncovering these types of problems, and so, lightening has struck once again. The good news is that as of Friday, the new server appears to be up and running and functioning properly. I am told that the engineers from Microsoft will continue to monitor our situation, and may make additional modifications to the system if necessary. Please tell all of the board members who update the CIS to verify that everything they have done the last few weeks is in the system properly. Also, if they see anything that looks out of the ordinary, or does not appear to work properly, please let me know.
If anybody has sent me any emails over the last week, that I have not responded to, please send them again because I don’t show any in my mail box. This afternoon is the first time I have been able to check emails in a week.

At the Winter Board Meeting, the Board voted to institute the suggestion from the Governance Committee. This suggestion was to have a Code of Conduct. This was signed by members of the current board and will be added to the Nomination Package this next year.
There still seems to be a probelm with our Web Page and CIS. This is due to a Software Upgrade done by our parent company Hill Country Software. They are working hard to restore the Web Page and CIS. We are sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused.

The Black Gold Chili Pod of Midland/Odessa would like to remind everyone that we have a new location for our Pod Cookoff, which is scheduled for May 14, 2011. The cookoff will be in Crane, TX at the Crane County Park on 6th Street. We already have held our Guess Where CCO and On The Road to Terlingua CCO at this park several times so you may be familiar with the beautiful park with its many shade trees, walking path and easy in and out access. The park has limited hookups but plenty of parking for all.
We have planned the usual Friday night Fish Fry which features fried catfish and all the fixins'. A Raffle and 50/50 Drawing are on the agenda along with a Saturday night 42 tournament. We have added a Youth cookoff to be held on Saturday for those under 18. Turn-in is at 12 noon, for the Youth, entry fee $5 with a very nice first place prize. There is also a "Day After" cookoff scheduled on Sunday at this location. Please put this one on your schedule, we are going to have a great time!!

The second annual FAME Festival (Food, Art, Music, Entertainment) has been approved for April 30th from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The free street festival will occur on Historic Broadway Street in downtown Myrtle Beach between 3rd and 6th Avenues North. An additional block has been added this year to accommodate 40-50 chili cooks. The Chili Appreciation Society International (CASI) will hold their first annual Southeastern Regional Chili Competition at the festival with cooks from Florida to Maryland. Plans are being made to also host a Fireman’s Chili Cook-off in conjunction with the CASI event. Volunteers are needed for hospitality, judging and staffing the event.
The festival will embrace local artists with original works of art from all medias including watercolor, oils, sculptures, metals, glass, etc. The music stage will be filled throughout the day with the best of local musicians, beginning with the Carolina Forest Middle School Steel Drum Band under the direction of Dr. Tim Peterman at 10:00 AM. An additional stage has been added this year to accommodate dance and the performing arts.
